3 years and a half ago I posted an article about my makeup routine and boy oh boy did things change! Fast forward to now, after gaining a few kilos that made me start contouring, landing a job as a Beauty Advisor at Sephora, getting proper makeup trainings and amassing a decent amount of makeup, the difference between then and now is quite drastic!
Frankly speaking, this article warms up my heart to its core! Because it reminds me of how much I’ve learned and how far I’ve come. My love for makeup and beauty keeps on growing and my skills are improving day by day so it only makes sense for me to update you with my makeup/beauty journey!
Without keeping you waiting any longer, let me introduce you to my new and updated makeup routine.
UPDATED MAKEUP ROUTINE 2.0
Primer: Prepping has become an important part of my makeup routine, I cannot skip this part if I want my makeup to look good and last longer. Starting with a clean and moisturized base is super important for a flawless application. I also have oily skin so I need to keep my excess sebum in lock. For that, I apply the Fenty Beauty Pro filtr to mattify and smooth my skin.
Foundation: After the prepping, my skin is now ready for makeup and I move on to foundation. Throughout these 3 years, I have tried and amassed numerous different foundations. My little collection is now narrowed down to 5 favorites and each one of them serves different purposes. However, for my day to day makeup, I still prefer a medium natural coverage. The Peach Perfect comfort matte foundation from Too Faced is my current favorite (I’m in the shade Warm Beige). It controls my oils, doesn’t transfer, it is also super comfortable and it gives me the most natural skin-like finish. Whenever I want slightly more coverage, I reach out for the Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Foundation (I’m in the shade 300).
I will be writing a full review on these foundations in an upcoming article about my favorite foundations so stay tuned!
Concealer: After foundation, I usually apply my NARS complete concealer in the color Medium 2 Ginger on my blemishes or break outs. As much as I hate this concealer underneath my eyes (it dries and creases like crazy), I love it on my skin! It blends in like a dream and covers up even my most stubborn blemishes.
For my under eyes, I start off with my favorite color corrector from BECCA the blacklight corrector in the color Papaya (a deep orange/red), and then I move on and apply on top of it my holy grail concealer, the Urban Decay All Nighter in the color medium-light neutral. I blend it with my Beauty Blender because it’s quite thick. My dark circles are quite prominent and this covers them up completely and it doesn’t budge.
Powder: I finish up my base by applying my favorite powder, the Laura Mercier Translucent powder. It’s very silky and mattifies very well. It also leaves a nice blurred/satiny finish to my face without making it look cakey. I start with setting my concealer, then I mattify my T-zone and finally go over my whole face with my Wayne Goss Air brush.
Eyeshadow: I like to prime my lids with MAC Paint Pot in the color Layin Low, it has a nice tacky consistency which helps my eyeshadows adhere to my eyelids better and also makes them last longer. For my day to day makeup I’m into warm browns and shimmery golden eyeshadows. My go to palette at the moment is the Soft Glam palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills.
I use Orange Soda as a transition shade, Burnt Orange to deepen the crease and also on the lash line, sometimes I use the color Sienna or Rustic to smoke the edges out, I use the color Bronze all over the lid, and the color Glistening or Fairy in the water line and brow bone.
Eyelashes: Curling my eyelashes is a must, Shiseido’s eyelash curler is the best one on the market, it holds on the curl the whole day and manages to grab every single one of my eyelashes, something I’ve been struggling with with other lash curlers.
For mascara I use the l’Oréal Telescopic mascara. This is the only item from my previous makeup routine that I kept using, so it’s definitely a holy grail!
Eyeliner: I add some white liner in the waterline to make my eyes look bigger, the Marc Jacobs fineliner in the color big(e)yes is the best, the color lasts for a long time and the tip is fine enough to fit the waterline perfectly! I finish up with a nice winged liner using the Kat Von D Trooper Tattoo black eyeliner, the brush tip is very flexible making the application very easy and it lasts for hours without smudging.
Eyebrows: Honestly, I don’t do much for my brows. They’re already very full and thick so I make sure to have them groomed once in a while and fill in the gaps. The Kat Von D Signature Brow pencil in the color dark brown has been my go to because it’s very small and precise. The Benefit 24h clear brow setter gel is the only product that keeps my coarse rebellious brow hairs in place.
My favorite part! I love a good bronzed look, I can’t do my makeup without it, it’s a must. I have so many bronzers but I had to keep it short so I currently have 4 bronzers in my makeup bag I like to rotate.
Contour: The Chanel Soleil Tan is my favorite cream bronzer. It gives the most beautiful sun kissed look to my face and it smells amazing! Nudestix in Bondi Bae cream stick is also another favorite of mine.
The Marc Jacobs Tantastic coconut bronzer is my current favorite powder bronzer, it has a perfect neutral color. I’m so happy they made it permanent because the color is beautiful, it’s very easy to blend and it smells amazing.
The Hoola bronzer from Benefit is a staple and never fails me. it’s warm enough to bronze the face but neutral enough to use as a contour. It’s also works great as a transition shade for the eyes (wonderful tip I got from my good friend working for Benefit).
Honorable mentions: Chocolate Soleil from Too Faced, Saddle bronzer from ABH, Jlo X Inglot Cocoa bronzer and the matte stick in the color Mocha from Fenty Beauty. I told you I owned a lot of bronzers…
Shimmer Bronzer: I always lay a shimmer bronzer slightly above my contour to give even more warmth to my face but also to add glow and luminosity. My favorite bronzer of all time is the Hourglass Ambient-lighting-bronzer in Radiant Bronze Light, it’s the one I wear almost everyday. The Sun Bunny from Too faced is also very gorgeous and gives the perfect sun kissed touch.
I love me some blush! I can’t do without, it’s the necessary step to bring life and color to my face. My current favorite is BECCA’s Flower Child a beautiful luminous peachy-pink blush that always look good with any eye look and any lip color. NARS Dolce Vita is a muted pink perfect for medium skin tones, I like it during winter time and for darker/vampy makeup looks. Clinique in Peach Pop is the perfect everyday peachy color and Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk is my favorite nude/brown cream blush because it gives the perfect sun kissed look and is very easy to apply with the fingers.
Probably my second favorite step when doing my makeup. Again, just like bronzer, I feel like I need to have a few options in my makeup bag in order to be happy and satisfied. The NARS Ibiza highlighter is the perfect golden touch for a beautiful subtle glow, probably the highlighter I use the most on a daily basis.
The TOM FORD Reflect Gilt Duo was my wedding highlighter, a bit more intense but doesn’t emphasis any texture and is simply gorgeous. The duo consist of a golden shade and a coppery shade I love to mix both colors together but they also look great on their own.
The NUDESTIX Hey Honey is my favorite cream highlighter because it really gives the perfect “wet” look. I like to use this one with no makeup on.
For lips, I have a preference for pink/peachy nude lipsticks. I usually don’t like to go too crazy with my lip color, I usually like all the drama to be on the eyes. My current favorite lipstick is the Huda Beauty liquid lipstick and lipliner in the color Bombshell.
For lipgloss I wear the Dior Lip Maximizer on it’s own or on top of my lipstick. The Gloss Bom from Fenty Beauty is also a favorite of mine.
The Mist: Finishing my makeup with a face mist has become a must! This M.A.C fix + Rose has a very nice scent (the rose smell also helps me relax) and does help in smoothing out cakey makeup and making it last a lot longer.
As you can see compared to my first makeup routine the change is quite drastic! I will make sure to update you as I continue discovering new products and changing my routine. Let me know in the comments below if you have similar products or the same makeup routine than mine or if you do things completely differently!
I wish you all a great day 💗
